Two Great iPhone Jailbreak Apps for Wi-Fi

Looking for more ways to improve your jailbroken iPhone? Many applications are available that expand the features and functions of your iPhone beyond what Apple allows. Tethering is one such function that makes it possible to use your 3G data connection to create a Wi-Fi hotspot for other devices. AT&T has finally made an official tethering solution available, but many customers don't want to pay the extra expense.

Enter MyWi 4.0. This jailbreak app creates a Wi-Fi hotspot instantly and allows multiple notebooks or other devices to use the iPhone data connection. USB tethering is also an option, and the Wi-Fi network you create will feature WEP security.

MyWi 4.0 broadcasts the SSID network name just like a real wireless router, and tracks upstream and download bandwidth usage when connected. MyWi can be installed via Cydia and features a three-day free trial. Unlimited tethering (within the constraints of your data plan) requires that you purchase MyWi for $19.99. AT&T charges $20 per month for its tethering plan.

Ever get tired of carting around the Apple USB cable to sync your iPhone to iTunes on the computer? You can sync wirelessly over your own network with Wi-Fi Sync. This app installs for free on your computer, and the companion iPhone app is available on Cydia for $9.99. Wi-Fi Sync will duplicate the USB syncing process with iTunes, transferring music, apps, photos, contacts, email accounts and calendars just as if the cable were connected.

Wi-Fi Sync does not sync with iPhoto and will not allow iTunes to update or restore firmware wirelessly. Still, if you're interested in making the everyday iPhone sync process much easier and convenient Wi-Fi Sync is the way to go, especially if your iPhone is already jailbroken.
